Final Reflection

I have really appreciated the amount of time that this course has made for me to pursue my own interests and inquiries. Having some background in pedagogical research means that I have waded into lots of ponds but only to a shallow depth, so it has been nice to look deeper into specific teaching methods. I also found it illuminating to hear what other students were interested in inquiring about and I think that final presentations were perhaps my favorite part of the course.

In terms of the inquiry project that I began, I didn't find my views directly changed, but my vocabulary is vastly expanded now. Having language to describe the elements of good teaching that I have witnessed and tried to practice is extremely useful. It was also validating to find evidence to support my observations of what successful and engaging teaching can look like, especially because I found myself frequently at odds with my SAs in that regard.

Moving forward to Inquiry 2, I am hoping to continue the same investigation, deepening my understanding even further. There are a number of things that I have collected, sources and other materials, that I didn't have a chance to really dive into in time to present at the end of this semester. Among these are a couple lengthy but foundational readings on problem-solving that I am eager to engage with. In terms of the class structure, I would love to check in with other students in a more scheduled way while doing our inquiry - maybe make small groups through which to stay accountable and gain insight into how other people are proceeding? That is something that has worked for me in the past, for sure.
